Systems won't grow your organization, but faulty systems will definitely stop it from growing. Leaders grow organizations and the right systems protect leaders. For example, in the church world if you lack adequate parking space, your church will stagnate in growth. An adequate parking lot won't guarantee your church will grow, but it can certainly limit it's growth. In today's Leaders Factory Podcast we're going to address how to build effective organizational systems and how to identify the systems that might be limiting your growth.

How to Build Effective Systems

  1. Design a clearly defined process.
 Clarity is the ability of the process to be communicated and understood by the people. Ask, how’s my how? Church leaders must define more than the purpose (the what); they must also define the process (the how)
  2. Create movement in your ministry. Movement is the sequential steps in the process that causes people to move to greater areas of commitment.
 Like an Olympic relay team, focus on the hand-offs. Plan your programs in sequential order and designate a clear entry-point to your process, then ask “Now What?”
  3. Align all of your ministries, staff, and volunteers around the same simple process.
 Resist complexity and pursue simplicity.
Sometimes that means we must choose what potentially works best over what is presently working. As new ministries begin, ensure they understand how they fit into the overall picture.
  4. Narrow Your Focus. You have to do less if you want to grow more.
 The more you focus each environment, the great the relevance, the better the connection, the higher the quality, and stronger the impact. 

Focus is the commitment to abandon everything that falls outside of the simple ministry process.

To have simple systems, you must implement a process that is clear and moves people. You must insist that all ministries align to the process, and you must refuse to allow it to become cluttered.
